The Madrid Film Commission promotes Madrid´s audiovisual production
Dreamlike locations for the most acclaimed directors, organisms from the audiovisual sector that provide the best technical and post-production services or the historical streets and monuments. Madrid has a solid structure that has positioned it as one of the most important national film sets for the cinematographic industry. The Madrid Film Commission is in charge of boosting this infrastructure to attract productions to the region.
Madrid has a sound audiovisual structure that is well-qualified and specialised. Indeed, 70% of the national productions have been filmed in the city thanks to the infrastructures, production and post-production companies, service companies, auxiliary companies, studios, labs and technicians that work in the region.
One of the elements that have boosted Madrid’s position as this great national film set is the Madrid Film Commission, a non-profit entity created in 2003 to provide national and international audiovisual producers with all the information they needed to film their productions in the region.
The entity, through the Spain Film Commission and the Association of Film Commissioners International (Afci), acts as a link with all the other Film Commissions in the world. Consequently, it offers all national and international producers information on human resources, technical services and logistics in Madrid, and also promotes agreements and actions that aim to consolidate each filming process, search for locations and process filming permits.
The Madrid Film Commission is composed by the Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de los Productores Audiovisuales (Entity for the Management of Audiovisual Producers’ Rights, Egeda), the Federación de Asociaciones de Productores Audiovisuales Españoles (Federation of Spanish Audiovisual Producers, Fapae), the Sociedad de los Comisionados de Filmaciones, Cine y Televisión (Spain Film Commission), as well as the Department for Culture and Sports of the Region of Madrid and the Department of Arts of the Madrid Council.
A complete tool for audiovisual productions
The Madrid Film Commission has drafted the Guía de Producción Audiovisual de Madrid (Madrid Audiovisual Guide), that provides basic and comprehensive information on the regional audiovisual world. The guide includes over 400 film, video, television and advertising production companies located in Madrid.
Its main goal is to promote the industry in the region on a national and international level and facilitate the encounter between professionals in the sector. In 600 of its pages, it presents information on regional institutions, tourist locations and cultural and commercial areas, which promote the image of the capital and the rest of the localities in the region as an unbeatable set for filming movies.
The capital, an unbeatable film reference
The most cosmopolitan Madrid, or the most traditional, or the cheekiest… All sides are reflected on the silver screens all over the world through a series of films that have used the city as an important location. Court and capital of Spain, the squares, streets and monuments have appeared in stories about kings, political upheavals, dramas and many comedies. Consequently, anyone who wants to see Madrid can choose from a number of recent productions that have been acclaimed by the international audience.
Since Madrid screened the first film seen in Spain on May 14th 1896 (Carrera de San Jerónimo, 32) and since the first movie with a plot was filmed in our country Madrid en el año 2000 (Madrid in the year 2000) in 1925, directors as important as Almodóvar, Luis Buñuel, Amenábar, Orson Welles or Milos Forman have filmed in Madrid national films like Volver, The Flower of my Secret, Thesis, Open your Eyes or Goya’s Ghosts; and international movies as famous as 55 Days at Peking, Doctor Zhivago, The Bourne Ultimatum or The Tourist, Ewan McGregor’s latest film.
