There is no doubt that Madrid is setting the standards for gays and lesbians worldwide. By its very nature, Madrid is an open city and has always welcomed anyone wanting to live their life their own way. You can be sure you will enjoy yourself here like never before, and if you are in Madrid at the end of June, you can take part in the Gay Pride celebration, which since 2005 has been the largest party in Europe.
PHOTOESPAÑA 2009
The International Photography and Visual Arts Festival will show the works of 248 photographers from 40 different countries. For this edition, almost sixty arts centres will exhibit images revolving around the theme of Everyday Life and the festival has increased the number of works and projects organised in various countries of Europe and Latin America.
EXHIBITIONS
As the Prado opens its doors to a large retrospective on Joaquín Sorolla, the Thyssen exhibits Matisse's works from the interwar period. The Reina Sofía welcomes the creations of sculptor Juan Muñoz while CaixaForum displays masterpieces of Islamic Art. All these exhibitions and many more are waiting for you in Madrid.
